Eat (and Drink) Your Fruits and Veggies!

It's the first day of Heart Month and I celebrated by talking about one of my very favorite things on Great Day SA...fruits and veggies!  Smoothies and broccoli cheese sweet potatoes were made, good times were had...

Had a great time sharing tips and recipes for eating more fruits and veggies on Great Day SA!

It's American Heart Month!  That means it's the perfect time to focus on those food and lifestyle habits that can impact our heart health.  And this morning the spotlight was on one of my favorite (and often overlooked) heart-healthy foods:  fruits and veggies.

We all know we need to eat those fruits and vegetables, but not many of us actually eat the recommended 2 1/2 cups of vegetables and 2 cups of fruit each day.  And getting enough produce in our eating plan means getting plenty of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which are all powerful things for the heart.

In my first segment, I showed one of my favorite ways to eat more produce, which is actually to drink it!  Smoothies are an awesome way to get a full serving of fruit and vegetables into the beginning of the day which means you're more likely to reach that daily serving goal.    I'll post the segment link soon, and click below for the recipes:

The second segment was about ways to eat more veggies at lunch.  We made my easy twice baked broccoli cheese sweet potatoes and I showed one of my favorite bagged chopped salad mixes that's the perfect "10 second meal."  Will add the segment link soon, and click here for the twice baked broccoli cheese sweet potato recipe.
