Blueberries and chocolate are a match made in heaven! This smoothie made with almond butter is creamy, flavorful, and a very pretty shade of purple.... :)
Yes, I know I just posted another smoothie recipe right before this one. But if you lived in South Texas right now, you'd understand...it's HOT here! And long summer days like these call for cold smoothies. So today I headed back to the freezer, stuck my head inside for a few moments to cool down (#KiddingNotKidding) then grabbed my frozen blueberries and frozen bananas and got to work making this smoothie.
I keep a zip-lock baggie full of frozen banana halves in the freezer pretty much all the time; it's perfect for smoothies because frozen banana makes for the creamiest smoothies, and it also means I have perfectly ripe bananas available anytime I want them.
But if you don't have frozen bananas around, or frozen blueberries for that matter, just use fresh ones and toss in a few ice cubes. You'll be good to go!
If you've followed my blog for a while, you've probably noticed that I post a lot of smoothie recipes. But today's smoothie has an ingredient that I've never used in any other smoothie on the blog: almond butter. I have to admit, I'm more of a peanut butter gal than almond butter so I keep natural PB on hand all the time, but last weekend at the grocery store, I decided to be a little "crazy" (I know, kind of sad...) and get some fresh almond butter from the bulk bin section of the grocery store.
I don't know if they have these where you buy groceries, but at my store they have little plastic tubs in the bulk bin section that you can fill with freshly ground peanut or almond butter. No extra ingredients. And the best part is, you get to press a button and the nut butter comes out like soft serve ice cream. It's delicious. And fun. :)
